Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD forgoes new Texas-approved reading lessons, adopts math materials

 
  • Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD chose not to adopt the state’s new Bluebonnet Learning reading curriculum due to concerns about its quality and effectiveness, as well as its narrow approval by the State Board of Education.

  • Although the district preferred the proven Amplify reading curriculum, its high cost of over $2 million annually made it financially unfeasible, highlighting budget constraints in implementing high-quality programs.

  • In the interim, the district plans to enhance its existing reading curriculum by increasing text complexity, emphasizing evidence-based discussions, and applying research-driven instructional strategies while awaiting better options.
